This one-day trek is a recommended option for those seeking experiences off the beaten track. Although the Huchuy Qosqo Trek is considered easy, it climbs to altitudes above 4,000 m, providing the opportunity to explore a less traveled part of Peru.

* Altitude sickness is a common experience for all visitors in Cusco. To minimize symptoms, it is advisable to spend one or two days in the city before starting the hike.

The tour starts with an early pick-up from the hotel to head towards the Piuray Lagoon in Taucca, the starting point for the hike to Huchuy Qosqo. Situated at 3,750 m asl, this route offers spectacular views of Veronica and Vilcabamba. The trek passes through Pucaqasa, reaching an altitude of 4,400 m, then descends towards Pumamarca and Pucamarca with impressive views of mountains, fields, and lakes. Following the newly restored Inca Trail, you will come across streams and Inca ruins like Puma Punku before entering the citadel at 3,600 m. Originally a palace, the site still impresses with its stone and ornate structures. After lunch in the shade of the Queñua trees, you will have free exploration time before descending through fields towards Lamay, where you will board transportation back to Cusco or Ollantaytambo.

In the morning, you will be picked up from the hotel and transferred to Pisac and then to the communities of Qorao and Patabamba, where the trek will begin at an altitude of 4,100 m. Along the trek, you will pass through the village of Siwas and visit the ruins of Pucamarca and Pumamarca before entering the canyon and crossing Puma Punku on an ancient Inca trail until reaching Huchuy Qosqo. From there, you will continue to Lamay, where you will take transportation back to Cusco or Ollantaytambo.

What to bring on the one-day Huchuy Qosqo Trek:

  • A lightweight backpack for the trip
