Lunch: Phulawasipata 4,600 / 15,091 ftasl (box lunch)

You will be picked up from the hotel for an early start, between 4:15 and 5 am and will be driven for 3 hours towards the slopes of the Ausangate Mountain. After a quick breakfast, you will receive a briefing before starting the hike. The route, approximately 6 km long, will take you through spectacular landscapes, where you can admire the flora and fauna and the majestic Andes Mountain range with the imposing Ausangate in sight.

Once at the top, you will marvel at the beauty of Rainbow Mountain and its surroundings, while listening to interesting stories about the place. After some time for photographs and enjoying the scenery, you will begin the descent, which will take about 2 hours. If the ascent becomes too demanding, you will have the option to use horses.

Back at the base, you will head to a charming town to enjoy a delicious, boxed lunch. Then, you will start the journey back to Cusco.

Depending on the duration of the visit to Rainbow Mountain, you should arrive around 6 pm.

The name Rainbow Mountain in Quechua is “Vinicunca,” which means “Mountain of Colors.” This spectacular natural phenomenon is due to the presence of various minerals in the mountain’s layers that create a rainbow effect on the surface.
